Westall House is part of the Abbeyfield Mid Sussex Society, a member of the nationwide Abbeyfield movement that was founded over 50 years ago to provide care and companionship to the elderly. It is registered as a residential care home with the Commission for Social Care Inspection and meets the requirements of the Care Standards Act 2000. It is a not for profit charity governed by a non-remunerated Board of Trustees with distinguished careers in the professions, business and the Services.

Day-to-day running of the house, which provides residential care, is managed to exacting standards by highly trained professionals. The results have been praised by the Charity Commission, the Commission for Social Care Inspection, all of whose 38 standards are met with 9 being exceeded, and by the Abbeyfield national organisation. Training is emphasised and this investment in professionalism is reflected in our standards of care ; our residents’ high opinion is very important to us.

We also provide very sheltered housing in self-contained bungalows on site, including two bungalows for friends or couples, for those who are becoming frail and who cannot manage at home. There is seamless on-site transition from the bungalows to residential care when needs dictate, a benefit shared by residents of our sheltered house in Forest Row (see below).

The resident is the focus of our concern. We understand the anxiety surrounding the move from home and work closely with residents’ support networks (family, sponsors, GP) to assess professionally and to understand what environment best meets their needs. Our staff and volunteers ensure that this criterion is continuously reviewed for each resident through our reporting structure.
